U.S. Government Seeks $5.7 million in Damages for Twin Otter Collision with V-22 Osprey at San Diego Brown Field in May-2020
There has been a series of developments in the case of DHC-6-100 N52FW (MSN 52) which struck a U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey on the ground at San Diego’s Brown Field on 30-May-2020. The U.S. Government has filed suit against 29 individuals, the City of San Diego, TAC Air Ops LLC (as lessee) and Kapowsin Air Sports of Shelton, WA (as lessor).
As a result of inadequate parking on the designated ramp, the Osprey was forced to park in an alternate area, in close proximity to several aircraft including the Twin Otter. During an engine run, the DHC-6 struck the MV-22 Osprey causing extensive damage, and the Government is seeking $5,745,117.83 in compensation.
N52FW had been the primary jump ship for Kapowsin Air Sports from 1992, but was replaced by N669JW (MSN 88) in Aug-2019. At that time N52FW was flown to Jamul, CA on lease to TAC Air Ops LLC.
